5 Tools for Spiritual Survival

For centuries, our ancestors have had the trees, the birds, the quietness of the planet to feed their spiritual hunger. The pagans may have lived short lives, but they lived. The Native Americans knew the preciousness of each minute. They looked at the stars, really looked at them and understood that they are a part of us.

This year is a turning point for humanity. We are collectively sick with the material. Our gods are politicians and leaders that have no spiritual depths. We try to find happiness looking at Tik Tok videos and going down rabbit holes. Our children don’t play. Our children don’t find themselves lost for hours in the woods and creating worlds only a child can understand. We are losing our spiritual connections. Being human is fleeting. We must go back and find our essence to push the vessel forward.

How do we do that? I have gone to the classes. Done the yoga. Visited the meditation centers. Everyone is looking for an outlet, the escape button. Some of these venues are beneficial. But I think the answer is not trying to find an escape, but to connect with the purpose. And right now, in this moment, you are here for a reason. The reason is to be a vessel of love, kindness and gratitude. And no matter how difficult the situation is, those high vibration choices will set you free.

I wanted to share some tools that may help. Getting to that place takes some work, because, especially in western culture, we are programmed to go against our nature. Here are five tools, in no particular order of importance, that may help you break free from the low vibration programming.

1. Singing Bowl

I first discovered the power of sound after my dad passed away and someone suggested I listen to binary beats to calm my nerves. Sound is everything. Sound is mathematics and creation. A good sound cleansing can help detoxify your pineal gland. And I know from my spirit guides who have communicated with me, the pineal gland is everything.

With our poor diets, lack of meditation or spiritual food, our pineal glands become decalcified. The consequences mean that you are blocking the messages from outside and within the body. Your endocrine system, with all its hormones that make your body run efficiently, begin to deteriorate. The results include depression, fatigue, and will hinder your ability to think clearly.

One tool that helps, almost immediately, is the Tibetan singing bowl. The bowl is made out of thick metal, but there are other types of bowls that give off different sounds and vibrations. The bowl has powerful healing properties. It has even helped with my joint and muscle pain.

Because we live in the western culture of big pharma, there have been very few studies on the healing properties of sound therapy and tools like singing bowls. However, I have been using them for a while, with some of the other tools in this article, and I can hands-down tell you, after a 10 or 20-minute session, I feel like a completely new person. The natural high is similar to when taking certain psychedelics.

I suggest buying a good handmade bowl. Sometimes these come blessed from countries like Tibet, already directing good vibes. Find a quiet space, turn off lights and maybe light some candles and incense. Sit in a comfortable position and quiet your mind.

I suggest lying down on a yoga mat, cover yourself with a blanket or in any comfortable position.

2. Soul Food

I’m not talking about mashed potatoes slathered in butter or a full-blown BBQ. Yes, comfort food is amazing and savoury, but it does little for our bodies. I have to confess, I am a meat girl and would never be able to go vegetarian or vegan. But I do follow the Paleo diet and it has improved my mental health tremendously.

I hate to even call it a diet. It is a lifestyle. And it doesn’t matter what you follow, there are key factors that important in any healthy eating plan. If you do this, after detoxing, the results are truly astonishing. The first time I did Paleo, I couldn’t believe the changes. I felt happy, had no brain fog, lost a ton of weight, saw improvements in my skin and hair and I have only had one cold since 2015. That’s five years, and counting, of optimal health.

We’re living in a world where so-called professionals are telling you to wear masks and stay away from people, especially your loved ones, to keep everyone safe and healthy. But covering your face, especially outside, deprives you of vitamins. And the lack of human contact deteriorates your mental health. Think of the benefits of giving someone a hug.

What the medical profession and scientists should be promoting is taking care of your body from the inside. That means eating the soul food that will boost your immune system, protecting you from viruses and bad bacteria. Your body is alive! You have a whole army inside of you, of living things that, if you treat right, they will defend you, because their instinct is to help you survive. You don’t have to do Paleo, but here are a few things you need to do to detox and build up your army.

  • Get rid of all sugar. This is the killer in our diets. I’m talking about processed sugar. Anything that has this kind of sugar, you should throw it out. Sugar is a poison and it will take a few weeks to detox. You may experience withdrawals. Alternatives to sugar: fruit, honey, coconut sugar and stevia. Here are some more alternatives from the website.
  • Drink plenty of water. You should investigate to see if your water has fluoride. If it does, invest in a water filtration system or buy spring water. My favourite is Fiji water. Mineral waters as well can have awesome health benefits, since our bodies do not produce them naturally.
  • Eat healthy meat. If you eat meat, make sure you are buying grass-fed and that grass was not treated with pesticides (so organic). Find a local butcher, because that meat may be a little more expensive, but it’s better. Your eggs should be from pasture-raised chickens, not caged. The life the animal lived is important because that energy is passed on to you.
  • Eat organic or grow your own. If you have a little yard or space, it’s no harm to grow some of your own food. Of course, this also depends on the time of year, there are seasonal fruits and veggies. Not only are you growing good food, but you’re connecting with your food on a spiritual level.
  • Bacteria is your friend. I very rarely take antibiotics and I think they should only be used if the situation is truly an emergency. But if you build up your immune system, you will rarely have to even go to the doctor. And one thing missing from our western diet is healthy bacteria. Again, I haven’t done a vegetarian or vegan diet, but this site explains the importance of good gut health and some vegetables, food and drinks that will improve it.

3. Crystals

A friend of mine who does ayahuasca ceremonies once told me the power of crystals. During a ceremony a few years ago, he said that someone was wearing a quartz crystal around his neck. After taking the tea started to kick in, my friend looked at the guy and he couldn’t believe it…the quartz was illuminated, giving off extreme energy. He said it was one of the most amazing things he has ever seen. So he wears one around his neck. This story piqued my interest in crystals and their healing powers.

I’m not an expert by any means. I am still learning. I recommend researching online from legitimate sources. One book that I have found helpful as a beginner is The Beginner’s Guide to Crystals, by Lisa Butterworth. Not only does the book explain the crystals, but it also offers at-home rituals that I have found helpful.

I have crystals everywhere, on my nightstand, my incense burners, the plant pots and sometimes I even put them under my pillow at night. Here are few of my favorites:

  • Clear quartz – a master healer that absorbs energy and balances the energy around you.
  • Rose quartz – helps with any love or relationship issues.
  • Hematite – a grounding stone that helps with stress, also good to have by your computer.
  • Menalite – a good stone to have if you are female and going through a major transition in your life.
  • Amethyst – a beautiful magical stone that helps in opening your third eye.

4. Burn Incense

If you ever go to a meditation center or a hippie alternative healing shop, you will often get that whiff of sage or peculiar. Is this a hipster trend or is it legit?

I didn’t believe the hype until I started researching the history. After all, baby Jesus was given the gift of frankincense, which is a powerful incense for spiritual growth and meditation. This particular incense has a fascinating history, which you can read about in this article by

The indigenous around the world use incense to keep away the bad spirits that could manifest themselves during ceremony. Sage is really good for cleaning. Others are good to have around for calming, meditation and attracting good energy.

Incense have been used pretty much since the beginning of recorded history. But think about it, they are made from certain woods. They come from remote parts of the world. You have a piece of the forest with you, and when you are burning it, are you releasing the energy, love and high vibrations of the plants? There are spirits in plants, trees, flowers and who knows, maybe they do call the good spirits to help us in our journey.

Incense and their powers:

  • Palo santo – comes from an endangered tree from Peru. Extremely powerful cleaning incense but make sure you buy from a reputable shop.
  • Sandlewood – good for meditation, chakra work and grounding. Helps with stress as well.
  • Dragon’s blood – a good erotic incense to have when you’re engaging in tantric, and also offers protection when your third eye is open.
  • Jasmine – powerful during astral travelling and also helps with psychic abilities.
  • Nag Champa – considered one of the most powerful incense in the world.

5. Plant Medicine

A food cleanse should also include good herbs and plants. Again, because big pharma has such a big hold on western medicine, there are very few clinical studies on the healing powers of plants. But people in places like South America, Asia and Africa, plants have helped from every day ailments like skin problems to life threatening illnesses, such as cancer and diabetes.

I use witch hazel every day to clean my skin. I recently recommended this to a co-worker who has rosacea. It also helps with acne and toning the skin. Another plant that is good for your skin, including sunburns, is aloe vera. You can even grow your own plant and extract the natural agent.

I also recommend drinking tea instead of coffee. There is a beautiful range of teas that help with everything from inflammation, to headaches. One powerful tea is cat’s claw, which my dad used to take when he had cancer. It helps boost your immune system.

I will do another article about the benefits of herbs, but what about the meditation and spiritual benefits? Depending on the chemistry of the plant, your body can have a reaction during meditation. Some of the extremes would be ayahuasca and peyote. I do not recommend these taken recreational, and there should always be a shaman or healer present. These are and sacred ceremonies that have extreme transformational results.

But if it’s legal in your state or country, there are some more mild plants that have hallucinogenic properties. I live in Ireland where picking magic mushrooms are legal. And in some places you can smoke marijuana. Again, I recommend this in a ceremonious setting and you should always be cautious. These things are not for everyone, and you can reach that meditative state without them. But I am pro plant if it’s healing. Micro-dosing has been proven to help with PTSD and depression.

Speaking of marijuana, I find CBD oil has been a miracle. It has helped with joint pain and reduces stress and brain fog.

In conclusion, there is no one way to help with meditation and spiritual growth. The answers come from within. Use your instincts and see what works for you. There is no one size fits all. But the exploration can be enlightening. And, bonus, you will be able to help others in the future.
